the three gunas

the central principle of kalimite faith

The Three Gunas are a concept central to Hinduism, especially those following the philosophy known as Samkhya. Guna means "thread" and defines the three primal tendencies of prakriti, universal nature. The Kalimite cult is considered to be Bhangi or Outcaste to orthodox Hindus; therefore, we have our own special interpretation of the Gunas and the Kalidas' relationship to them. This view is a complete blasphemy to most Hindus, but we're Witches and Devi-worshippers; we like it that way. A somewhat later interpretation of this same principle is in Alchemy, which is both misunderstood chemistry and a philosophical system.

GUNA        HERMETIC ELEMENT    MUNDANE ELEMENT

                        Sattva                                Mercury                            Air

                        Rajas                                 Salt                                   Water

                        Tamas                               Sulfur                                Fire

(Existence includes both Earth and Aether or Quintessence.)

The Church of Kali blasphemes the philosophies of most branches of Hinduism because we accept all dairy products as TAMAS, a meat or "karmically-attached" food. This is because we believe that: A.) Vegetable life also have feelings and vibrations; not as focused or coherent as animal, true, but still there. We believe that to ignore that is hypocritical and wrong; and B.) We are hunting, predatory carnivores. Even if you choose to consume dairy products instead of meat, for personal or devotional reasons, it still counts (to us) as eating meat. If it doesn't to you, we feel that you might find religious satisfaction elsewhere.
